You have no doubt heard many people talking about unlimited website hosting and why it is important that you get it. What it basically means is that when you sign up, the company tells you that you can have unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth.
Now this might sound all good and well but what many of them fail to tell you is that if your site starts using a lot of CPU on the server, they could just close down your site completely. They normally add this in small print on their terms of service. So this basically means that if you are running scripts or things like videos that require more system resources to use, once you reach your limit and the server crashes, they will disable many of the functions on your site.
Now with the latest technology this doesn’t happen as often as it did 10 years ago. Servers are now built to be able to cope with a lot more than they used to. But it is one thing to bear in mind when looking for unlimited website hosting. Sometimes it might be better to use a company that limits the disk space but not the CPU usage. These might be a little bit more tricky to find but it can be worth the extra effort.
Most website companies won’t be able to give you an exact figure on how much CPU usage you get. It depends on what other sites are on the server if you are using a shared server with other sites. If there are several sites that are quite intensive and using a lot of resources, then your site might keep on going down as the server continues to crash.
So unlimited website hosting doesn’t mean unlimited everything. So always make sure you read the small print before signing up.
